Lawyers Abru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal has turned their hunger strike, which they declared on Februay 5, 2020, to a death fast on April 5, the Lawyers' Day. The demands of the two death fast resister lawyer is "the right for a fair trial".  Coordination of Freedom for Defence initiated a petition for the two lawyers. In the petition declaration the following call was announced, as the members of the coordination reflected their concern regarding the health condition and the lives of Timtik and Ünsal:

 

"18 lawyers, who are the members of the Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD)  were sentenced to a total of 159 years in prison as a result of a trial where the procedural security, as well as the defense right was violated.  The judges, who decided on the release order were forced to change decision and then they were removed from the case. This decision is still pending on the Supreme Court. As signatories of this text, we are concerned about the politicized judiciary in Turkey.

 

Underlining the responsibility to make them live, we call all the authorities to their duties, including the High Court and the Ministry of Justice to guarantee the fair trial right, which is the very essential substance and requirement of any democratic state, for all the citizens!
